This City Sparkles in Johannesburg – May
The first JHB Come Wine With Us of 2017 was much anticipated not only by us, but by the entire CWWU community. It is safe to say that these events have started to attract some old favourites and newcomers alike, but it’s those of us who have experience the evening that look forward to it most.
As per usual, the venue for the evening was specifically chosen with the idea of each wine for the evening complementing each dish. The wine in question was Durbanville Hills, who launched their brand new Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc. And so, the theme for the evening was #ThisCitySparkles, and boy did it sparkle from the beautiful viewing deck of the Maximillien Restaurant situated in the DAVINCI Hotel. On top of the beauty of the location, the service was superb, too! Our waiter was particularly friendly and attentive, and surely was a reflection of the calibre of staff.
In addition to the brand new Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc (which was delightful), we were treated to the Durbanville Hills Chennin Blanc and their Merlot Rose. Each was paired with a delicious meal, and while guests raved about all the wines on offer, unsurprisingly the star of the show seemed to be the focus of the event itself, the new Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc.
Waiting for guests was a glorious bread basket of sorts (as all good people know, you can never go wrong with bread), which was soon followed with delightful starters. The show-stopper of the evening though, was one if the mains. The Line Fish, which was served with Aglio e Olio-style spaghetti was sublime. Never before have we had line fish so perfectly cooked! It was reminiscent of the texture you get when you have a dish such as Salmon Teriyaki, which is to say that it was moist and crumbled apart at the poke of a fork. It was definitely something we’ll be going back for. The highlight for dessert was the Strawberry Cheesecake, which kept guests around our table quiet as they delightfully tucked in. You know what they say, when no one is talking, the food must be good!
TO TOP IT ALL OFF
As with all CWWU events, not only was their good food, great wine and excellent company, but there was the added bonus of the lovely Alison Tu from Talamia Photography taking superb photographs, and an accompanying Jazz band which certainly kept spirits high. We certainly couldn’t have thought of a better way to kick off the JHB CWWU scene than with this event! This event was also supported by Zomato. Download the app and read all the reviews from that night (and don’t forget to add your own next time you visit Maximillien).
See you at the next one!
