Roodeberg – Johannesburg – May 2016
We were lucky enough to be invited to Come Wine With Us, a food and wine pairing evening intended to bring people together over good food and great wine! Each month CWWU partners with a different brand of wine, venue and chef to create the perfect evening. The event we attended was in association with KWV Wines Rediscover Classic. The dress code was simple: smart casual with a touch of vintage. This was an evening of pearls, good food and full-bodied wine.
Tsogo Sun’s Punchinello’s chefs spoilt us with a three-course Julia Child inspired menu, which was complimented perfectly by the three Roodeberg #RediscoverClassic wines. To start we enjoyed a deconstructed Nicoise Salad with Roodeberg Rosé 2015. This was followed by a hearty Beef Bourguignon, which was perfect for the chilly evening and served with a glass of Roodeberg Reserve 2013 (perhaps our favourite wine of the evening). To finish things off we had a decadent Dark Chocolate Tart served with a scoop of chocolate ice cream and macerated figs. This was accompanied by a glass of Dr. Charles Niehaus Roodeberg 2012. All courses were delicious, but we especially loved the deconstructed Nicoise Salad with the beautiful seared tuna.
The evening entertainment was provided by Justin Serrao, who didn’t only entertain us with his musical talent, but was also an absolute hoot as one of our table-mates. To top that off, we were also seated with KWV Wine Master Monique Fourie, which meant that lots of interesting wine-related conversation was had, and delicious wine was shared!
Dani’s unwavering enthusiasm for social media made sure that she, or rather we, walked away with a bottle of 2014 Classic Roodeberg Red. Woohoo — something we’ll be sure to open on our one year anniversary of dollsanddan.com! There’s nothing better than a glass of red on a wintry night, and we can’t wait to find and share with you the perfect recipe to pair with this beaut… because despite the fact that we’re only opening this particular bottle in a year, we still have some bottles of Roodeberg on the way to enjoy before then.
To say we had a brilliant night with Come Wine With Us is an understatement. We’d like to thank CWWU, KWV Wines and Tsogo Sun’s Punchinello’s for a fabulous evening (not to mention Alison Tu for the gorgeous pictures). These events are open to anyone with a penchant for great conversation, meeting new people and of course sampling superb South African wines. You can find out about the upcoming CWWU events on their website, where you can purchase tickets at a steal!
See you at the next one!
